A YOUNG boy from east Hull who suffered three strokes in one night is to help raise funds for his rugby club. Jack Roe, 11, had to undergo life-saving surgery last June and doctors warned his parents Mandy and Phil he may not survive.
However, he has made an incredible recovery and is now to take part in a special charity fashion show to raise funds for his team-mates at Skirlaugh Rugby League Club's under-12s. His mother Mandy said: “It's our way of saying thank you to Skirlaugh because they have been so supportive. “Jack lost the use of his right side and the club sent him a laptop and got him signed rugby shirts and balls. They've been fantastic.” a pupil at Malet Lambert school, became ill at a Hull Kingston Rovers match last June and was diagnosed with tonsillitis. As his condition deteriorated, his mother rushed him to hospital and a brain scan revealed he had suffered three strokes in a night. Fearing Jack would not survive the journey to Leeds General Hospital for surgery carried out by a paediatric specialist, he underwent surgery in Hull. Although he was rushed to intensive care, he was taken off the critical list by the end of the week and was allowed home to Burbage Avenue, east Hull, just three weeks later. Able to return to school in September, he has regained the use of his right side, his limp has gone and his speech has been restored. Mrs Roe said Jack and his rugby team-mates will model the clothes for the fundraising fashion show, which will be held at O'Sullivan's on Chamberlain Road on June 29. Bohemia and Bolo will supply the clothes for the night with entertainment provided by Northern Academy School of Performing Arts.
