Due to the weather and exams It’s been a frustrating season for both the under 13’s and under 17's cricket teams. Being a small club we only need a couple of members unable to play and it proves difficult to raise a team.
This year is the first season for the under 13's and they have played 4 games so far and performed very well. The first game was a cup game against Bridlington which we lost. Chris Dale scored 25 runs not out and Luke Stocks 19 runs. Bridlington scored 103 for 7 wickets and we scored 83 runs for 5 wickets. We followed this with a good win against South Holderness. Skirlaugh scored 114 for 6 wickets and South Holderness scored 82 for 4 wickets. Again Chris Dale scored 25 not out Jack Havercroft 13 and Ryan McGruddy 13. Another good win was against Sutton. Skirlaugh scoring 112 runs for 4 wickets. Chris Dale 25 not out Luke Stocks 27 not out and Jack Havercroft 18 not out. Against Beverley we lost with our batting not being at its best. Beverley scored 108 runs for 5 wickets Tom Sharp taking 3 wickets for 17 runs and Jack Waudby 2 wickets for 10 runs. Skirlaugh were all out for 69 with Jack Waudby scoring 19 not out. The first game for the under17's was at home to Hessle. We batted first and scored 77 for 6 wickets with good knocks from Ben Irwin 23 and Curtis Bartlett 24. Hessle replied with 78 for 4 wickets. The next game was a cup game against Hessle but this time Skirlaugh were the winners. Skirlaugh scored 78 runs for 8 wickets Ben Irwin 14 Tom Havercroft 15 and John Greendale 13. Hessle scored 76 runs for 9 wickets. Skirlaugh bowled well John Greendale taking 2 wickets for 8 runs Paul Galloway 3 for 25 and Tom Havercrift 2 for 11. This win has put Skirlaugh into the semi final. The next match was against Cottingham were we came down to earth with a heavy defeat. Cottingham batted first and scored 128 runs for 3 wickets and we were all out for 60 with only Luke Smith 11 and Curtis Bartlett 10 hitting double figures. The senior team are having a good season so far only losing the first game against Beverley. Since then we have played 6 games won 3 drawn 3 with 2 games rained off. Last season we struggled with our game but this year we are playing much better due mainly to the influx of the younger players who over the last 4 years have improved tremendously, 4 or 5 youths now are playing regularly in the senior side and another 4 or 5 pushing for a place. Over the last couple of weeks. one game was rained off and we had a good win at kirk ella which pushed us up the league.
