Skirlaugh Village - An East Riding of Yorkshire Village

Skirlaugh Parish Council Minutes - March 2004

Meeting of Skirlaugh Parish Council, 3rd March 2004

1.    The meeting was attended by Cllr. Maureen Wastling of ERYC

2.    The resignation of Cllr. Tyrone Aaron was received, as he has moved away from Skirlaugh.  This has created a casual vacancy.  Unless an election is requested, the vacancy will be filled by co-option.  See the separate notice following this report.

3.    ERYC had been asked how long the road safety camers will remain in use.  They replied that at the moment they will continue for 2 to 5 years, unless there is a change in the rules governing their use.  Concern was expressed about the speed of some lorries entering the village from the Hull end of the A165, particularly in early mornings.  ERYC willbe asked whether it will be possible for the camera to be situated nearer the south end of the village.

4.    Highways matters:  Cllr. McLeavy had met with Mike Peeke of ERYC.  There should be no problem with the proposed village map being located at the present site of the notice board, near the mini-roundabout; Langdale Villas road will be inspected with a view to patching areas during the summer;  Mr. Peeke will find out whether an "access only" sign can be placed at Lambwath Villas lay-by; a nameplate for Sandringham Lane will be installed.  Cllr. Mrs. Wastling had asked ERYC to check the drains on Mill House Way where there is flooding.  The wall at the BT telephone exchange has been repaired.

5.    ERYC has asked parish councillors to make it clear that they are from the parish council and not from the County Council, to avoid confusion.  The possibility of introducing ID cards will be investigated.

6.    SAFE COMMUNITIES:  neighbour pack.   The aim of this scheme is to identify those who would benefit from support from a neighbour, for example if a suspicious caller should visit.  Success is dependent upon willing and able volunteers agreeing to assist a less able neighbour.  The pack includes a yellow card which can be shown to callers, giving details of the nominated neighbour who will offer assistance  It was noted that there have been burglaries in Long Riston, so all parishioners are advised to be vigilant and make sure their property is secure.
The Safe Communities officer is also looking for drama groups, or individuals interested in drama, with some spare time during the day.  If this is you, please contact Sgt. Alison Bradley on 01482 396418.

7.    Bus services:  a leaflet on the park and ride service from Priory Park to Hull city centre was received.  Enquiries will be made as to whether a similar service for east Hull will be introduced.

8.    ANNUAL PARISH MEETING.  This will be held on Monday 19th April at 7.30 p.m. in the Village Hall.  All residents of Skirlaugh are invited to attend to discuss any matter relating to the village.  If you would like a particular item included on the agenda, please contact either the Chairman Mike McLeavy, (562747) or the Clerk Sara Towne (544067).

9.    ODD JOB PERSON:  the Parish Council is considering employing a person to carry out occasional small jobs around the village.  If you are interested and would like to know more details of what is involved, please contact Mike McLeavy on 562747.
