Skirlaugh Parish Council Minutes - July 2003
Meeting of Skirlaugh Parish council, 2nd July 2003
1. A new councillor was welcomed to the meeting: Alison Clark was unanimously co-opted to the Council. There are now three vacancies remaining. Anyone interested in joining the Council is invited to contact the Clerk or any of the Councillors. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30 p.m.
2. New street lighting: ERYC had been asked if they can provide funding for the cost of installing additional lights on paths on the Cawood Estate and Old Forge Way. Unfortunately they replied that this will not be possible. It was agreed that they be asked once again if they will share the cost with the parish council and put this cost into their budget for next year.
3. The existing street lighting on the Cawood Estate will be improved as part of the ERYC ongoing maintenance programme. Residents will be informed about 2-3 weeks before work commences, which will be between now and March 2004.
4. The Parish representative on Skirlaugh School governors is Cllr. Gill Whitehead. As from 1st September this year parishes will no longer have an automatic right to a place on the governing body, but existing governors will complete their term of office.
5. Sanctuary Housing had been asked to carry out repairs to the damaged fence at Hillfield Drive. It has been reported to the Parish Council that Sanctuary has contacted residents of Hillfield Drive requesting a contribution towards the cost of repair, which has understandably upset some people. The Parish Council will write to Sanctuary Housing again to clarify that although the damage was known to have been caused by youths with a football, it had not been said that these youths were from Hillfield Drive and that we feel it is not the residents' responsibility to pay for repairs
6. ERYC will be asked when the broken Old Forge Way name sign will be replaced. Also, the road surface at the top end of Bermuda Avenue is in need of repair.
7. The next meeting will be held on 6th August. Members of the public are welcome to attend and take part in the open forum at the start of the meeting, when any matter of interest to the parish may be discussed.
