Skirlaugh Village - An East Riding of Yorkshire Village
Village Hall ‘Volunteer Weekend’ A Huge Success!
On Saturday 17th November and Sunday 18th November, Skirlaugh Village Hall Management Committee held a Volunteer Weekend, asking local residents to give up some of their free time to clear out the Village Hall.
More than 30 people, of all ages, turned up to help and, armed with safety gloves, goggles, spades, sledgehammers and wheelbarrows, proceeded to fill four large skips with old equipment and rubble.
Inside, the kitchen and toilets have been gutted and plaster board stripped from both the large and small halls. Outside, the whole area has been weeded and trees have been pruned back.
Of course, the workforce needed to be ‘fed and watered’, and a big thank you goes to Skirlaugh Butchers for supplying bacon butties, and Costcutters for the donation of beverages and biscuits. Elaine and Paul at The Sun continue to hold regular fundraising events to support the renovation project which we are grateful for.
Further thanks goes to AMEC for the kind donation of safety equipment, including gloves, goggles, masks and hard hats.
We’d also like to thank Chris Kemp for providing extra skips at very short notice, and for giving up his Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning to offer his assistance to the project.
Finally, a massive thank you to all volunteers who turned out over the weekend. The enthusiasm, effort and time from everyone was a much-needed boost for the renovation project and great things were achieved. We are now in a good position for building work to commence in the New Year, with a view to re-opening the Hall in the Summer.
Watch this space for future volunteer events!
