Skirlaugh Village - An East Riding of Yorkshire Village
Skirlaugh Parish Council Minutes - May 2004
Meeting of Skirlaugh Parish Council held on 5th May 2004
1. The meeting was attended by Inspector Steve Jackson and PC Gary Cudbertson at the invitation of the Parish council. Matters discussed included traffic speeds through the village and the use of safety cameras. Inspector Jackson was able to tell us that a survey in September 2003 showed that average speeds have dropped to 30 mph. Traffic flow is approximately 7700 vehicles per day. Inspector Jackson assured the council that the police do patrol in the village, though you may not always see them. It is hoped that they will be able to attend parish council meetings every 3 to 4 months.
2. As the May meeting is the annual meeting of the council, elections took place for the Chairman, vice Chairman and committee representatives.
Cllr. McLeavy was unanimously re-elected Chairman and Terry Frost was unanimously re-elected Vice Chairman. All committee representatives remain the same, with the addition of Peter Waddingham to the planning and crime prevention committees.
3. Cllr. Whitehead has been contacting potential advertisers for space on the proposed village map. Anyone wishing to take an advert on the map should contact her on 562512.
4. Cllr. Whitehead had produced a sample ID card for parish councillors. This will have a photograph of and be signed by the councillor, countersigned by the clerk. Contact phone numbers for verification of the card will be shown. If anyone calls at your home introducing him/herself as a member of the parish council, please ask to see this ID card.
5. A member of the public who attended the open forum at the start of the meeting was concerned that the grass verge on Church Lane near her house has still not been reinstated following work done over a year ago. This will be reported once again to ERYC.
6. Dog fouling: Ray Gibson of ERYC said that they can send a letter to dog owners if a witness tells them the name and address of the owner. They will only prosecute if there is also an independent witness.
7. Cllr. McKernan expressed concern at the frequent changes of landlord and recent closure of the Duke of York Inn. It was agreed a letter be sent to Century Inns voicing this concern and asking what are their long-term plans for the pub.
8. A letter was received asking whether a bus shelter can be provided on the west side of the A165 for those travelling to Beverley and Hornsea. This will be looked into further and ERYC asked whether they can help.
