East Hull coach Lee Radford pointed the finger at his side's lack of discipline as they went down to a 22-18 home defeat by Skirlaugh.

Shaun Hill's try for Skirlaugh, two minutes from the end, put daylight between the two sides. Lee Brown and Martin Johnson, along with Skirlaugh's Dave Wilson, were all given 10 minutes in the white-hot atmosphere of Rosmead Street. The result blows the Premier Division title race wide open as Skirlaugh are back in the mix. East Hull are top, just a point above Leigh Miners Rangers with Skirlaugh in third. Radford said: "It was a typical derby game but, rightly or wrongly, too many sin bins.
"There were a lot of mistakes as well, but the discipline needs fixing up after this performance.
"If we want to go on to try and be champions we have to be better than we were out there today."

East Hull got off to a dream start with a Johnson try after two minutes when Scott Yeaman cut through. He found the centre in support and he dived under the posts as Gary Blanchard converted. It took Skirlaugh 15 minutes to mount a sustained attack. When it came, Jordan Precious converted a penalty for a high tackle on the full back. It was a first half with too many penalties, but well refereed by Chris Dean who sent Brown to the bin on 16 minutes.

Skirlaugh continued to press through Steve Cochran, Carl Puckering and Brendan Lewis. The latter was denied a try by substitute Paul Jordan who bundled the winger into touch, and he repeated the feat five minutes later. Skirlaugh found a way through on the half hour when Puckering's cross field kick was taken by Lewis for a try. Precious landed the touchline conversion for 6-6. Wilson was the next player to be given an enforced rest when he went high on Johnson. Easts made Skirlaugh pay by retaking the lead through Dave Page.

Skirlaugh conceded another penalty with Sean Wildbore going high on Shaun Painter. The ball was moved left between Brown and Blanchard before Stuart Coates put in the centre, but Blanchard failed to goal. On half-time Blanchard landed a penalty for Skirlaugh not being square and they held a 12-6 lead until the 49th minute. A move down the right saw Chris Brown race through for Kirk Abel to send Precious under the posts. Precious added the conversion and a penalty when Jason Abdul was guilty of ball stealing.

Easts drew level at 14 each when Trevor Penrose was hauled out for a high shot on Painter. Johnson went in the bin on 74 minutes as East Hull ended the game with 12 men. Precious added the penalty to edge Skirlaugh in front 16-14 before a Puckering kick to the line was spilled by Abdul. Hill powered his way over as Precious kicked the goal, but a late Tommy Brett try failed to inspire his side to victory.

Skirlaugh skipper Wildbore said: "We haven't played well recently but we seem to come into our best form in the New Year.
"We are the champions and everyone wants to beat us so we have to be ready for them."

SKIRLAUGH and Great Britain forward Trevor Penrose has won the BARLA Player of the Year.

The 23-year- old prop has capped a fantastic season by picking up the most prestigious award of all from a player's perspective.

"It was a truly unexpected award and one a whole host of players could have won" said Penrose.

"I have just gone out to play rugby and if representation has come along I have taken it. It's a big honour, not only for me but also Skirlaugh."

This season Penrose captained Yorkshire in both County games as well as touring South Africa last year.

He played in Morocco and was vice captain of the BARLA Open Age side.

A YOUNG boy from east Hull who suffered three strokes in one night is to help raise funds for his rugby club. Jack Roe, 11, had to undergo life-saving surgery last June and doctors warned his parents Mandy and Phil he may not survive. However, he has made an incredible recovery and is now to take part in a special charity fashion show to raise funds for his team-mates at Skirlaugh Rugby League Club's under-12s.
His mother Mandy said: “It's our way of saying thank you to Skirlaugh because they have been so supportive.
“Jack lost the use of his right side and the club sent him a laptop and got him signed rugby shirts and balls. They've been fantastic.” a pupil at Malet Lambert school, became ill at a Hull Kingston Rovers match last June and was diagnosed with tonsillitis.
As his condition deteriorated, his mother rushed him to hospital and a brain scan revealed he had suffered three strokes in a night.
Fearing Jack would not survive the journey to Leeds General Hospital for surgery carried out by a paediatric specialist, he underwent surgery in Hull.
Although he was rushed to intensive care, he was taken off the critical list by the end of the week and was allowed home to Burbage Avenue, east Hull, just three weeks later.
Able to return to school in September, he has regained the use of his right side, his limp has gone and his speech has been restored.
Mrs Roe said Jack and his rugby team-mates will model the clothes for the fundraising fashion show, which will be held at O'Sullivan's on Chamberlain Road on June 29.
Bohemia and Bolo will supply the clothes for the night with entertainment provided by Northern Academy School of Performing Arts.

SKIRLAUGH'S dreams of a second successive National Conference Premier Division title were blown away as Leigh Miners Rangers defeated them 38-4.

Miners, who are the Minor Premiers, will now face East Hull at Featherstone in the Grand Final next Saturday.

Skirlaugh coach Colin Brown was extremely disappointed, but knows his young players will be better for the experience.

"We're all absolutely gutted but we were beaten by a very good Leigh Miners side" he said.

"It has been a great achievement coming this far and finishing third with the number of players we have lost recently.

"Our young guns will be better for this experience next season, and the future of the club looks very healthy."

The referee's performance was questionable in taking little action when an off the ball incident on the floor with just a penalty when Craig Todd was floored. He then twice sent skipper Sean Wildbore to the sin-bin for asking the question in his role as captain.

Contentious penalty decisions were also given and Jordan Precious didn't take any further part in the game aftre being injured stopping a Chris Humphrey try.

The hosts opened the scoring on nine minutes when Mr Jefferson penalised Precious for the ball to be worked to John Woods. He put scrum half Andy Sarsfield into a gap and he off-loaded for second row Liam Coleman to crash over.

Martyn Ridyard added the extras and booted over a penalty on the quarter mark before Humphrey went in and Precious went off.

Skirlaugh refused to lie down with Chris Brown chasing his own kick through and Kirk Abel was tripped when receiving the ball on an overlap and the line clear again with no action taken.

The Miners effectively sealed their final place with two tries in the five minutes leading up to the break with Skirlaugh down a man due to the sin-binning of Wildbore.

Ridyard went under the posts after a missed tackle before hooker Aaron Gorton went in from acting half under the sticks as Ridyard goaled both.

At 24-0 there was little or no way back for Skirlaugh as Woods went over in the corner from close range within five minutes of the restart. Ridyard added a superb touchline conversion before the outrageous head high tackle on Todd.

The hosts increased their lead with a Ridyard penalty for a high shot before Skirlaugh got a consolation try through winger Paul Hannath.
